Hullo hullo, and welcome to another review! I’ve been falling rather behind on these things. Anyway, today we’ll be reviewing…Cinder! This is a novel about a cyborg girl and its rather similar to Cinderella. It’s part of a series, The Lunar Chronicles, of which I am reading the second book, Scarlet. Now, let’s get this show on the road!
Author(s): Marissa Meyer
Synopsis: Even in the future, the story begins with once upon a time…
Humans and androids crowd the racuous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl…
Sixteen year old Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past and is reviled by her step-mother. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalatic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future. Because there is something unusual about Cinder, something that others would kill for.
Characters: Linh Cinder (the last name is before the first), Linh Adri, Linh Peony, Linh Pearl, Dmitri Erland, Prince Kai, Queen Levana, Iko, Sybil Mira, Nainsi, Princess Selene, and others.
Theme: Discrimination, as Cinder is discriminated against for being a cyborg. That’s all I’ve got really.
This book. This book. This book. I LOVED Cinder! I’d already read it and had forgotten everything, and this was like reading it for the first time. It was an amazing experience!
The opening wasn’t slow, the middle was action packed, and the end left me longing to read Scarlet, the next novel in the series. You’ll laugh, cry, hope, and do everything along with the characters. Cinder is extremely relatable and her love for her step sister Peony can be felt through the page.
Ah yes, then there’s Levana. I’ll probably be doing an assessment of her later. She’s terrifying. She’s the Lunar queen who no one trusts. I actually rather like Levana, I think she’s a very interesting villain.
My favorite character is either Peony, Iko, Cinder, or Kai. It’s a four way tie. I can’t really decide. I know I should, but I can’t.
Recommended for: Fantasy and sci-fi fans, people who aren’t squeamish when it comes to diseases, as the plague, a disease called letumosis, has a very important role.
My rating: 5/5 stars
Anyway, that’s all for now! Leese, signing off!
